Technical Director Position
Classification: Full-time
Mission Connection
The Technical Director supports the mission of Sojourn East by ensuring that worship gatherings and ministry events are executed with clarity, excellence, and minimal distraction through thoughtful stewardship of audio, visual, and lighting systems. Reporting to the Worship Director, this role helps create an environment where the church can gather to worship, hear the Word, and engage in ministry through well-executed production and a healthy volunteer technical team.
Role Summary
The Technical Director is a full-time role responsible for overseeing the audio, visual, and lighting (AVL) systems that support Sunday services and ministry events at Sojourn East. This position focuses on planning, coordination, volunteer leadership, and system oversight to ensure that production runs smoothly and consistently.
The Technical Director leads and develops a volunteer technical team, supports the creative goals of the worship and ministry teams, and maintains the health and reliability of AVL equipment and systems.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with relational leadership. They are organized, calm under pressure, and able to troubleshoot problems quickly while equipping others to serve effectively behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
Sunday Service Production
- Oversee the technical production of Sunday services, ensuring audio, video, and lighting systems function smoothly.
- Coordinate weekly preparation including stage setup, system checks, and rehearsals.
- Troubleshoot technical issues to maintain a distraction-free worship environment.
Volunteer Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteers serving on the technical team.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and cultivate a healthy team culture.
Ministry & Event Support
- Provide AVL support for ministry events and special gatherings throughout the year.
- Coordinate equipment and volunteer staffing for events requiring technical production.
AVL Systems & Equipment Stewardship
- Maintain and manage the church’s AVL equipment and system inventory.
- Schedule maintenance and repairs as needed and recommend upgrades when appropriate.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the worship team, communications team, and staffto support ministry goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and volunteer training.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is both technically skilled and relationally aware. They enjoy solving problems, working behind the scenes, and equipping others to serve well. They are organized, dependable, and able to lead teams in the fast-paced environment of live worship services.
Qualifications
- Experience with audio, visual, and lighting systems, with strong proficiency in live audio production.
- Ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteer teams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with tools such as ProPresenter, Dante, Blackmagic systems, and digital audio platforms (e.g., Logic Pro) is helpful.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a ministry environment.
- Alignment with the mission and values of Sojourn East.
Middle School Ministry Associate
Classification: Full-time
Mission Connection
The Middle School Ministry Associate supports the mission of Sojourn East by building meaningful relationships with students, parents, and leaders, helping middle schoolers grow into mature followers of Christ. This role helps create environments where students are known, loved, and challenged toward spiritual growth through consistent presence, thoughtful programming, and strong leadership development.
Role Summary
The Middle School Ministry Associate is a full-time role focused on relational discipleship, weekly programming, and volunteer leadership within the middle school ministry. This position plays a key role in shaping a ministry that is engaging, welcoming to new students, and rooted in biblical teaching.
This role requires a highly relational, self-starting leader who can take initiative, build trust with students and families, and create structure in a dynamic and often unpredictable ministry environment.
The Associate works closely with the Student Ministry Director and collaborates with the broader student ministry team to ensure alignment in vision, programming, and leadership development.
Key Responsibilities
Relational Discipleship
- Build consistent, meaningful relationships with middle school students both inside and outside church settings
- Initiate regular time with students to foster trust, friendship, and spiritual growth
- Cultivate small groups and discipleship environments that encourage engagement and maturity
Weekly Programming
- Lead and execute a weekly middle school gathering (Wednesday evenings)
- Ensure gatherings are engaging, welcoming to new students, and rooted in sound biblical teaching
- Create environments that are both fun and spiritually formative
Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, and invest in volunteer leaders
- Foster a healthy, unified team culture among leaders
- Provide ongoing coaching, support, and development for volunteers
Events & Experiences
- Plan and execute 2–3 social or community-building events per semester
- Lead planning and execution of a summer camp and a weekend retreat
- Create experiences that deepen relationships and reinforce ministry vision
Administration & Communication
- Maintain a clear and organized semester calendar, including curriculum and key events
- Communicate consistently with parents and leaders
- Steward ministry budget and resources with integrity
- Help connect students into broader church life and opportunities
Collaboration
- Partner with the Student Ministry Director to align vision, strategy, and programming
- Contribute to the overall health and direction of Sojourn Students
Ideal Candidate
