Ruth | Advent 2025
Advent is a season of tension. On the one hand, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” filled with lights, food, parties and good company. But throughout the centuries, the church has kept Advent as a season of waiting and a time to acknowledge the deep hunger, sorrow and longing that fill our world and our lives. Advent tells the truth about the aches we feel and the hope that we cling to. It is a season of waiting in the dark, trusting that God is at work in ways we cannot see and longing for the day when He will swallow up all darkness in His glorious light.
This Advent, we’re studying the book of Ruth. Ruth’s story begins in darkness–famine, death, and grief–but through it all God’s goodness and faithfulness shines through. As we journey through Ruth’s story, we’ll find that Christian hope is not wishful thinking, but rather a redemptive trust that God brings light into the very darkest of places.
